Kvitova ousted at U.S. Open

Flushing Meadows, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was eliminated Saturday in the third round of the U.S. Open.
The third-seeded Czech lost 6-4, 6-4 to Serbian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Kvitova committed six double faults and 34 unforced errors, becoming the fifth top-10 seed eliminated in the first week.
Krunic, 21, is making her second main draw appearance at a Grand Slam. She lost in the first round of this event last year.

Veteran Italian Flavia Pennetta also advanced to the round of 16. The 11th seed routed American wild card Nicole Gibbs 6-4, 6-0 at Ashe Stadium.
