Kvitova ousted at U.S. Open
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Flushing Meadows, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was eliminated Saturday in the third round of the U.S. Open.
The third-seeded Czech lost 6-4, 6-4 to Serbian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Kvitova committed six double faults and 34 unforced errors, becoming the fifth top-10 seed eliminated in the first week.
Krunic, 21, is making her second main draw appearance at a Grand Slam. She lost in the first round of this event last year.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Veteran Italian Flavia Pennetta also advanced to the round of 16. The 11th seed routed American wild card Nicole Gibbs 6-4, 6-0 at Ashe Stadium.
