Kings, Cup hero Martinez agree to 6-year extension

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Kings and defenseman Alec Martinez have agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension.
No financial terms were disclosed by the team. TSN of Canada was first with the news on Wednesday, reporting the new pact will be worth an average annual value of $4 million per season for the duration.
Martinez was credited with the overtime goal in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in Chicago and then scored the double-overtime Stanley Cup- winning goal on home ice against the New York Rangers two weeks later. He has totaled two goals and seven points in 18 games this year.

The 27-year-old native of Michigan was set to be an unrestricted free agent in July once his current contract -- a two-year deal signed in July of 2013 -- expired following this season.
The 2007 fourth-round selection has spent his entire six-year NHL career with the Kings, tallying 25 goals with 37 assists in 221 regular-season games. He's added six goals and 16 points in 59 postseason appearances for Los Angeles' two Cup winning teams.
