Kentucky and head women's basketball coach Matthew Mitchell have agreed to a new seven-year contract.

The deal was announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon and comes less than two years after Mitchell had agreed to a five-year deal in November 2010.

Mitchell, who was hired in April 2007, has led Kentucky to the postseason in all five of his seasons, including a program-record three straight berths in the NCAA Tournament.

The team's success has been overshadowed by the men's program, which just won its eighth national title.

"It's been a really nice year in UK athletics," said athletic director Mitch Barnhart.

Mitchell's 114 wins rank third in program history. Kentucky made it to the regional finals as a No. 2 seed this year and ended No. 12 in the AP poll -- the second highest finish in school history in that poll.
