Karam leads way in first Indianapolis 500 practice as drivers transition from Grand Prix race

Sage Karam led the way in the first Indianapolis 500 practice on Monday with a fast lap of 225.802 mph.

Scott Dixon was second at 225.293, Brazil's Tony Kanaan was third at 225.217, Marco Andretti, the only Honda in the top six, was fourth at 225.184, and JR Hildebrand was fifth at 224.760.

Drivers downplayed how tough the quick turnaround between races after Saturday's Grand Prix of Indianapolis road-course race to begin practice for the Indy 500 oval track, making sound almost like a normal process.

The conversion began immediately following the conclusion of the GP. Teams began moving pit boxes while track workers took down sponsorship decals, repainted walls, and moved nearly 2 million pounds of concrete barriers.
