Carson, CA – The Los Angeles Galaxy earned a crucial victory on Sunday, topping FC Dallas 2-0 at The Home Depot Center to stake their claim for a postseason berth in the Western Conference.
The goals did not come until the final quarter of the match, but Juninho and Todd Dunivant struck to ensure three points for L.A. and help the Galaxy (12-11-4) take sole possession of fourth place in the West with 40 points on the season.
Dallas (8-12-8) sees its three-game winning streak in league play come to a halt.
The home side was made to wait until the 66th minute for its opening goal as Jose Villarreal caught the FC Dallas defense napping, getting around the on- rushing Kevin Hartman and squaring the ball for Juninho to tuck home his fourth goal of the season.
The lead was doubled six minutes from time as Dunivant started a move down the left flank and capped a three-man combination with a low shot past Hartman.
The Galaxy's 2011 MLS Cup-winning defensive unit consisting of Dunivant, A.J. DeLaGarza, Omar Gonzalez and Sean Franklin was in tact for the first time this season, and the quartet helped the reigning champions keep a clean sheet to go eight points clear of Dallas.
