Jets RB Shonn Greene says he was taken out after fumbles, blames self for loss

Jets running back Shonn Greene says he was taken out of New York's season opener against Baltimore on Monday night after fumbling twice, and says he blames himself for the loss.

Greene, slated to be the starter ahead of LaDainian Tomlinson, fumbled the ball out of bounds after a 9-yard catch in the first quarter. He then lost a fumble in the second quarter when he hit into the backside of guard Matt Slauson and the ball popped out of his hands.

That ended up being the last carry for Greene, who finished with 18 yards on five attempts. He says Wednesday that he wouldn't have put himself back in after that performance.

Greene actually did make it back out on the field, but dropped a short pass late in the fourth quarter.
