James Madison QB Birdsong practicing again

James Madison University quarterback Michael Birdsong is practicing with the team after having an emergency appendectomy on Aug. 6.
The Dukes' No. 1 signal caller returned to practice on Friday only 10 days after the surgery.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore from Matoaca is trying to be ready for JMU's season opener against Central Connecticut State on Aug. 31.

Birdsong threw for 478 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards and one touchdown as a freshman last season. The Dukes finished with a 7-4 record, including 5-3 in CAA Football.
