James Madison QB Birdsong practicing again
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}James Madison University quarterback Michael Birdsong is practicing with the team after having an emergency appendectomy on Aug. 6.
The Dukes' No. 1 signal caller returned to practice on Friday only 10 days after the surgery.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore from Matoaca is trying to be ready for JMU's season opener against Central Connecticut State on Aug. 31.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Birdsong threw for 478 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards and one touchdown as a freshman last season. The Dukes finished with a 7-4 record, including 5-3 in CAA Football.
