Isaac not changing FCS schedule ... yet

Tropical Storm Isaac is sure to impact the sports calendar later this week, but there are no announced changes for the FCS schedule that kicks off Thursday night.

Isaac is gaining strength toward hurricane status and cutting a path through the Gulf of Mexico, and could make landfall as early as Tuesday night.

No FCS teams are scheduled to play on Thursday in Louisiana, Mississippi or Arkansas, where Isaac could be passing through at that time.

Tennessee also should feel the wrath of Isaac. Tennessee Tech is hosting Hampton and McNeese State is scheduled to visit Middle Tennessee State, but a spokesman at both host schools said the games remain scheduled for Thursday.

Nicholls suspended football activities through Wednesday, with Louisiana under a state of emergency. The Colonels play Saturday at Oregon State.

"It's very unfortunate to have to miss a few days of preparation, but the safety of our players comes first," Nicholls coach Charlie Stubbs said. "If the storm passes and we're able to get everyone back safely, then we'll definitely try to practice on Thursday. But until then, there isn't much we can do."

Some of the local players on Nicholls' roster have left campus to be with their families.
