Irene strikes early; Phils/Marlins postponed

Saturday's game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Florida Marlins was postponed on account of the arrival of Hurricane Irene.

A split doubleheader had been scheduled for Saturday, as the threat of the hurricane forced the teams to move Sunday's contest back a day. The Saturday night game was then postponed on Friday after the forecast became bleak.

The teams were hoping to play at least one of the games before the storm's arrival, but were unable to even start the first contest.

While the teams had already rescheduled the second game for September 15, a makeup date for Saturday afternoon's contest has yet to be determined.
