Injured Clijsters will skip French Open

Former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters will miss the French Open and the entire European clay-court season in order to focus her attention on grass for the upcoming Wimbledon and London Olympic Games events.

The oft-injured three-time U.S. Open champion has been slowed by a torn hip muscle injury and expects to resume training in about three weeks. Her grass- court campaign will open in The Netherlands in mid-June.

The currently 41st-ranked Clijsters said her "current physical condition does not allow me to be ready for Roland Garros."

Clijsters has appeared in only three tournaments so far this year.

The 28-year-old wife and mother has already said that the 2012 Olympics would mark her final event on the WTA. Tennis at the London Games will start July 28.
