Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - First baseman Nick Swisher will return to the Cleveland Indians' lineup when the team begins a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox Thursday at Fenway Park.

The Indians activated Swisher, out since May 26 due to a hyperextended left knee, from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's tilt, with the veteran switch-hitter to bat seventh and serve as the designated hitter for the game.

In a corresponding move, designated hitter Jason Giambi was placed on the 15- day DL with inflammation in his left knee.

Swisher had been struggling at the plate prior to landing on the DL for just the second time of his career, owning a .211 average with three home runs, 11 doubles and 19 RBI over 49 games this season.

The 43-year-old Giambi, meanwhile, is hitting a meager .128 with two homers and five RBI over 47 at-bats. This is his third stint on the DL this season, having previously missed time with a broken rib and a strained right calf.
