Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians placed catcher Yan Gomes on the 15-day disabled list Sunday and said he could miss between six and eight weeks with a sprained knee ligament.
An MRI confirmed Gomes suffered a moderate sprain in the medial collateral ligament, the Indians said.
He was hurt in the ninth inning of Saturday's loss to the Detroit Tigers when Rajai Davis slid into his right foot, which was planted on home plate, on a forceout.
The Indians recalled pitchers Shaun Marcum and Austin Adams from Triple-A Columbus, optioned pitcher Kyle Crockett to the minors and released pitcher Charles Brewers.
Marcum, 33, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2013, when he went 1-10 with the New York Mets. He spent the 2014 season in the Cleveland organization rehabbing from right shoulder surgery.
