Stephan Hicks scored a career-high 28 points, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and hitting all 13 of his free throws, to pace Cal State Northridge past Long Beach State 91-83 on Thursday night.

The Matadors (15-17, 7-9 Big West) shot 51 percent from the field and went 34 of 39 from the free-throw line. Josh Greene and Tre Hale-Edmerson each had 15 points, and Stephen Maxwell added 13 with nine rebounds.

LBSU (13-16, 9-6) shot 42.2 percent and went 10 of 27 beyond the arc. Tyler Lamb scored 22 points, Mike Caffey had 19 with seven assists and Dan Jennings contributed 10 points with 10 boards.

CS Northridge had a 43-38 halftime advantage, and pushed that lead to nine with 3:53 remaining after two Hicks free throws. The 49ers pulled within two after a Caffey 3-pointer, but the Matadors sank their last 10 free throws to ice it.
