Newton, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Herring put the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota on the pole for Sunday's 3M 250 Xfinity Series race after topping the qualifying charts at Iowa Speedway.
Herring, who drove the No. 20 car in place of Erik Jones, turned a lap at 134.391 mph during Saturday's third and final round of qualifying at this 0.875-mile oval. Jones was on standby for Kyle Busch in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Jones is scheduled to drive the No. 20 in the 250-lap race at Iowa, but he will have start from the rear of the field due to a driver change.
Herring claimed his second pole in 16 Xfinity starts. His first pole win occurred at Iowa in August 2013.
Jones' teammate, Daniel Suarez, qualified second at 134.351 mph to give JGR a front row sweep.
Brian Scott placed third, followed by Chris Buescher and Brandon Jones.
Chase Elliott, the defending Xfinity champion, Regan Smith, Darrell Wallace Jr., Ty Dillon, the current points leader, and Elliott Sadler completed the top-10.
