STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy still hasn't named a starting quarterback for the 13th-ranked Cowboys' season opener Aug. 31 against Mississippi State.
Instead, he has announced that both senior Clint Chelf and sophomore J.W. Walsh will see action in the first game, which will be played in Houston.
Gundy has repeatedly declined to specify which one will be the primary signal caller. And as preparations continue for the Bulldogs, Gundy says Chelf and Walsh have both looked strong in preseason and that each deserves a shot to seize the job.
Both quarterbacks played significant roles last season, as the Cowboys finished 8-5, with the nation's No. 3 offense.
Chelf started the final five games and won the most valuable player award at the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Walsh was voted the Big 12's Freshman of the Year by the conference's coaches.
