Girls basketball team lets rival school's injured captain score one last basket

Two girls basketball teams in Missouri put their rivalry on hold this week to give an injured player a memory that will last a lifetime.

Fox High School, who was playing Windsor High School in Arnold on Monday night, let their opponent’s team captain score a basket for one last time.

Windsor senior guard Kaylee Johnson has been out for the season with a knee injury, but she was put into the school’s starting lineup that night, KDSK reports. It was Windsor High School’s senior night.

At the game’s opening tip-off, Fox High School basketball coach Jeremy Donald -- with the cooperation of Windsor head coach Andrea Reed -- told his team to ease up while Johnson’s teammates passed the ball around and allowed her to make a layup.

“I just thought it was the best thing ever that he would allow me to have that moment,” Johnson told KDSK.

Donald said it was the “right thing to do.”
