Genoa sacked manager Pasquale Marino on Monday and has decided to turn back to Alberto Malesani.

Marino, who was appointed manager in December after Malesani was let go with the team in 10th place, was fired following a 5-4 defeat to Inter Milan that extended the club's winless streak to nine games.

But now Malesani returns with Genoa in 16th place and six points above the drop zone with eight games to play.

Malesani's first game in charge will come Saturday against second-from-the- bottom Novara.
