AMES, Iowa – Freshman Hallie Christofferson scored 18 points and Chelsea Poppens added 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, leading No. 23 Iowa State to a 71-56 victory over Missouri on Saturday.
Lauren Mansfield contributed 14 points in a balanced offensive game that enabled the Cyclones (15-5, 3-3 Big 12) to survive a rare stretch of cold shooting by leading scorer Kelsey Bolte.
Iowa State built a 24-point lead in the first half and led 39-19 at halftime despite getting only six points from Bolte. Missouri (10-11, 2-5) whittled the lead to 67-56 with just over a minute to play, but Mansfield sank two free throws and Bolte hit a jumper to end the threat.
Bolte, averaging a league-best 24 points in Big 12 play, made two of her first three shots, then missed 13 of her next 14 and finished with 12 points on 5-for-20 shooting.
Iowa State's victory spoiled the return of Missouri coach Robin Pingeton, who was an assistant for the Cyclones from 2000-03. Shakara Jones led the Tigers with 16 points.
