Former champ Jankovic bounced in Beijing

Former champion Jelena Jankovic lost in straight sets Saturday during the first round of the $4.5 million China Open.

Austria's Tamira Paszek ousted the 10th-seeded Jankovic 7-5, 6-4 on the hardcourts at the National Tennis Centre to send the 2008 winner and former world No. 1 to her early exit.

Meanwhile, 16th-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, the 2006 and '09 champion, won her first round match when opponent Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania retired with a bilateral knee injury. Kuznetsova was leading 6-4, 4-1 at the time.

Three more seeded players won Saturday, led by No. 7 seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy, who earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski.

Ninth-seeded German Andrea Petkovic beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7-5), 6-4; and 15th-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy rolled past Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-4, 6-3.

Also moving on were Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson, Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic and Australian Jarmila Gajdosova.

World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated Russia's Vera Zvonareva in last year's Beijing finale.

The 2011 China Open champion will pocket $775,500.
