Fairfield wins 9th straight, 70-48 over Niagara
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Maurice Barrow had his first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds as Fairfield defeated Niagara 70-48 on Monday night.
Derek Needham added 15 points for the Stags (10-3, 3-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who won their ninth straight. Its Fairfield's longest streak since 1961-62.
After the Purple Eagles (3-12, 0-3) got on the board on a free throw by Kashief Edwards for a 1-0 lead, Barrow hit a jumper and the Stags wouldn't trail the rest of the way.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Stags, whose defense held an opponent to under 20 points in the first half for the fifth time this season, limited Niagara to 4-of-25 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Fairfield outrebounded the Purple Eagles 40-29 as Niagara shot just 27.8 percent for the game (15 of 54).
Kashief Edwards scored 15 points to lead the Purple Eagles, who lost their fourth straight.
