UTA fell behind 20-5 in the first six minutes and Western Kentucky stretched the lead to 26-9. The Mavericks pulled within 60-55 on consecutive 3s by Dowell and Brandon Edwards.
An assist by Shaquille White-Miller to Edwards gave UTA its first lead, 64-63 with 3:52 remaining. The Mavericks closed on a 16-10 run to seal it.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Dowell was 10 of 22 from the field and 15 of 18 from the line. Edwards finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for his 12th career double-double. Texas-Arlington (13-15, 8-8 Sun Belt) has won four of its last five conference games.
T.J. Price scored 17 points and Brandon Harris added 14 for Western Kentucky (19-10, 11-5).
