The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to promote top prospect Corey Seager to their major-league roster prior to Thursday's game at San Diego, as first reported by CBS Sports on Thursday.

Seager, 21, was the 18th overall pick in 2012.

In 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A this season, Seager is hitting .292/.343/.486 with 18 homers, 36 doubles and 74 RBI.

Seager has primarily played shortstop but also has spent some time at third base in the minors.

After sweeping the second-place San Francisco Giants this week, the Dodgers lead the NL West by 6 1/2 games.
