Dodgers activate Ethier and Kemp from DL
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Los Angeles Dodgers activated outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's series-opener against the San Diego Padres.
Ethier has been on the shelf since June 28 due to a left oblique strain and was hitting .291 with 10 home runs and 55 runs batted in before the injury.
Kemp, a two-time All-Star, has missed 51 of the Dodgers' last 53 games due to a lingering left hamstring strain. Prior to the injury, Kemp was having an outstanding season. He collected a player of the month award in April and was hitting .355 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The team went 24-27 in his absence and the Dodgers couldn't get both players back at a better time as they have lost 11 of their last 15 contests and are just a 1/2 game ahead of the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West entering play on Friday.
To make room for Ethier and Kemp, Los Angeles optioned outfielders Elian Herrera and Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.
