New York, NY – Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley was named National League Rookie of the Month for April.
Over five appearances in April, Miley led all N.L. rookies with a 3-0 record and a 1.29 earned run average. He also struck out 15 batters over 21 innings while giving up just 10 hits and walking seven.
He began the season in the bullpen and won in his first appearance against San Francisco on April 8, pitching four innings without giving up a hit or run. His last two appearances were both starts and were both wins as he defeated Philadelphia on April 23 and Miami on April 29.
Other rookies receiving votes included St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter, Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Cincinnati shortstop Zack Cozart.
