Del Piero leaves it late for Juve

Alessandro Del Piero came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 82nd minute for Juventus, helping the club to a 2-1 win over Lazio that takes them back to the top of Serie A.

After falling two points back of AC Milan following the Rossoneri's 1-0 win over Chievo, Juve responded with Simone Pepe scoring on the half-hour mark to put them in front.

But Stefano Mauri equalized just before halftime by heading home Lionel Scaloni's cross, which brings an end to Juve's streak of five successive clean sheets.

Del Piero entered the match in the 73rd minute and he needed nine minutes to make his presence felt, dispatching a wonderful free kick into the upper corner of the net from 25 yards.

Juventus has won its last five games to move a point clear of AC Milan, while Lazio has dropped four of its last six but still remains three points clear in the race for third place.

Roma 3, Udinese 1

Rome, Italy - Roma moved to within four points of a Champions League place on Wednesday with a pair of late goals to hand the capital side a 3-1 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.

The two teams traded goals in the first half with Pablo Osvaldo putting Roma ahead after eight minutes while Udinese answered a few minutes before the break through Gelson Fernandes.

But with the match coming down to the last five minutes, Francesco Totti fired home the go-ahead goal from close range after a cross from Osvaldo.

Marquinho sealed the victory in the 90th minute by nodding home a cross from Bojan to move Roma to within one point of the visitors.

Lecce 2, Catania 1

Catania, Italy - Lecce's survival bid got another boost on Wednesday as David Di Michele scored a late winner in Lecce's 2-1 comeback win over Catania.

Gonzalo Bergessio made it 1-0 to Catania after 52 minutes, while Di Michele missed a great chance to equalize with 20 minutes left when he fired a penalty kick wide of the net.

Daniele Corvia looked to have salvaged a point for Lecce with his goal in the 88th minute, but Di Michele atoned for his earlier miss by following up a shot from Corvia to score on the rebound.

The late winner moves Lecce to within two points of safety with the club riding a five-game unbeaten streak.

Fiorentina 0, Palermo 0

Florence, Italy - Fiorentina is three points above the relegation places after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Palermo.

A run of one win in six games has the Viola sitting dangerously close to the drop zone, but the hosts will feel unlucky not to take all three points from Wednesday's game.

Matija Nastasic saw his first-half header hit the post for Fiorentina before Amauri thought he had won the game for the hosts nine minutes from time, only to have his goal called back for a handball.

Genoa 1, Cesena 1

Genoa, Italy - Cesena was able to salvage a point at Genoa on Wednesday after Adrian Mutu scored 14 minutes from time in a 1-1 draw between the two sides.

Genoa entered the match in search of its first win in 11 games and moved in front shortly before halftime when Marco Rossi picked up Guiseppe Sculli's pass and rounded the goalkeeper before rolling his shot into the net.

Genoa had opportunities to extend its lead but was unable to take advantage, and the hosts paid for their wastefulness in the 76th minute when Mutu netted his eighth goal of the season.

Inter Milan 2, Siena 1

Milan, Italy - A pair of goals from Diego Milito helped Inter Milan to a 2-1 comeback win over Siena at the San Siro on Wednesday, improving the European hopes of the Nerazzurri.

Siena grabbed an early lead through Gaetano D'Agostino, but Milito canceled out that effort shortly before the break by heading home Mauro Zarate's cross.

The difference came nine minutes from time when substitute Yugo Nagatomo was brought down inside the area, giving Milito the chance to fire home the winning goal from the spot and snap Siena's three-game unbeaten run.

Inter moves to within two points of a place in Europe with the result.

Atalanta 3, Napoli 1

Naples, Italy - Napoli stumbled again on Wednesday as the club yielded second- half goals to Atalanta's Gianpaolo Bellini and Carlos Carmona in a 3-1 defeat to further damage the team's Champions League hopes.

Having lost its last two games Napoli was in need of a positive start, but instead fell behind after 10 minutes when Giacomo Bonaventura finished off a pass from Maximiliano Moralez.

Ezequiel Lavezzi equalized for Napoli three minutes later, but the visitors came on strong in the second half and ran out with all three points as Bellini scored from close range before setting up Carmona to seal the win.

Napoli was reduced to 10 men 20 minutes from time when Goran Pandev received a straight red card for kicking Moralez.

Parma 2, Novara 0

Parma, Italy - Novara's survival hopes hit a snag on Wednesday at Parma as the club sustained a 2-0 defeat that leaves them 11 points from safety.

With just one loss in its last five games Novara was hoping to make a late charge in an effort to avoid the drop, but first-half goals from Sebastian Giovinco and Jonathan put the home side in control.

Novara had a way back into the game on the hour mark when Takauki Morimoto earned his team a penalty kick, but Marco Rigoni's effort was poor and was saved by the feet of goalkeeper Antonio Mirante, helping Parma to its second win in 11 games.
