An attorney for Minnesota guard Daquein McNeil says the sophomore will plead not guilty to charges he attacked and injured his girlfriend.
McNeil appeared Monday in Hennepin County court. The 21-year-old is charged with two felony counts of assault for allegedly choking his girlfriend and whipping her with a belt last week.
McNeil did not enter a plea, but the Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1yDwS32) reports his attorney, F. Clayton Tyler, said McNeil will plead not guilty.

Bail was set at $30,000 with conditions and $75,000 without. McNeil remained in jail, according to online jail records.
Athletic director Norwood Teague said last week McNeil is suspended from the team while his case makes its way through court. He was averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in nearly 19 minutes per game.
