DeAndre Daniels has 21 points and 10 rebounds, UConn routs S. Connecticut 93-65 in exhibition

DeAndre Daniels had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help Connecticut rout Division II Southern Connecticut 93-65 in an exhibition game Wednesday night.

Ryan Boatright added 15 points, and Niels Giffey had 10 for the Huskies, coming off a 20-10 season. Boatright and Shabazz Napier each had five assists. Freshman center Amida Brimah blocked five shots and scored eight points.

UConn, eligible for postseason play again after an NCAA ban in 2012-13, will open the regular season Nov. 8 against Maryland at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Greg Langston scored 18 points to lead the Owls.

Southern Connecticut forced UConn coach Kevin Ollie to use a timeout with 9:19 left in the first half after Michael Mallory (13 points) hit a jumper to pull the Owls to 18-14. The Huskies responded with a 14-4 run that included a dunk by Daniels and a 3-pointer by Boatright.

UConn improved to 46-6 in exhibition games over the last 27 years. The Huskies have won 39 in a row since losing to Marathon Oil on Nov. 21, 1993.
