NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jordan Cyphers scored a season-high 22 points as Tennessee State beat South Carolina-Upstate 67-64 Friday night.
Kellen Thornton added 14 points and Patrick Miller chipped in with 12 to help Tennessee State (6-7) stay 4-0 at home.
Tennessee State shot 59.1 percent (13 for 22) in the second half to cut into a 29-25 halftime deficit.
The Tigers scored seven unanswered points, making it 35-34 with 15 minutes to play.
With the Tigers trailing, Cyphers made two 3s to give Tennessee State the lead 42-41 with under 12 minutes to play.
Miller later connected on two quick 3s to put the Tigers ahead for good, extending their lead to six, 55-49, with 7:54 left to play.
SC Upstate's desperation buzzer-beater fell wide and Tennessee State held on for the win.
Torrey Craig scored 18 points and Ricardo Glenn had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (4-7).
