IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys have given first-round pick Dez Bryant their ultimate sign of respect for a receiver — jersey No. 88.

The number is hallowed in team lore because it was worn by Michael Irvin and Drew Pearson.

However, the last receiver to have it was Antonio Bryant, another high pick who slid to Dallas because of character questions.

Bryant was considered among the 10 most-talented players in this draft, but Dallas nabbed him at No. 24.

At a news conference Friday, Bryant was humble and often began his answers with "yes, sir" or "no, sir." He also was carrying the playbook for an upcoming rookie minicamp and said he expects to sign in time for the start of training camp.
