WACO, Texas – Cory Jefferson scored 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made the tiebreaking free throws with 50 seconds left in overtime as Baylor opened Big 12 Conference play with an 86-79 victory over Texas on Saturday.
Pierre Jackson added 24 points for the Bears (9-4). Jefferson and Jackson combined to score all but one of Baylor's 18 points in overtime. Jackson had 11 of them, including nine free throws.
Javan Felix had 26 points and nine assists for Texas (8-6), and Sheldon McClellan scored 21 points.
The Bears were without coach Scott Drew, who served the first game of a school-imposed two-game suspension from Big 12 games. The suspension was announced in April, after an investigation revealed hundreds of impermissible telephone calls and text messages to recruits.
