Columbus, OH – Saturday's scheduled game between the Columbus Crew and Toronto FC has been postponed for the funeral of Crew midfielder Kirk Urso, MLS has announced.
The match will now be played Aug. 22 at Crew Stadium at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
"It is important for us to honor Kirk's memory by attending his funeral," said Crew captain Chad Marshall. "We are grateful to the League and Toronto FC for allowing us to move the game and for accommodating our request to be there for Kirk and his family."
Urso, 22, died last Sunday. An autopsy performed Monday showed an "apparent natural death," pending further tests. Urso collapsed at a Columbus bar and restaurant and was later pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center.
Urso was selected in the first round, 10th overall, in MLS Supplemental Draft in March from North Carolina. A former United States youth player, Urso played six times for the Crew, including five starts.
