Columbus signs Perry, Urso

The Columbus Crew signed draft picks Aubrey compliance deadline.

Perry and Urso join fellow draftee Ethan Finlay, the Crew's first selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft on the club's roster.

Columbus selected Perry, a defender, in the second round of the SuperDraft out of South Florida.

"Perry is a very fast right back who is good on the ball and picks his runs when he goes forward," said Crew coach Robert Warzycha. "He will learn a lot from (Sebastian) Miranda and be good competition for him.

"As he gains experience, he can become a top right back."

Urso, a midfielder, was picked in the first round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft out of North Carolina.

"Urso is a very physical player who is a good passer and has a winning mentality," Warzycha said. "He's a good midfielder who can provide a lot of stability in the middle of the field."

Teams must submit a roster with a maximum of 30 players and the Crew have just 28 players on their squad.

Per club and league policy, no further terms of the deals were disclosed.

Columbus opens the season March 10 at the Colorado Rapids.
