A goal in each half from Papiss Cisse propelled Newcastle to a 2-0 win over Liverpool at Sports Direct Arena on Sunday, piling more misery on the visiting side.
The match saw the return of former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, who has struggled since his big-money move to Merseyside, while the Magpies have to be pleased with January signing Cisse, who has tallied seven goals in as many league appearances.
Newcastle joins Chelsea on 53 points with the win, which puts the club in a great position to claim a top-six spot, while Liverpool has slipped to eighth having lost six of its last seven Premiership contests.

The hosts seized the advantage after 19 minutes when Hatem Ben Arfa's cross was nodded home by Cisse, while Carroll was booked for diving as his struggles continued.
Ben Arfa and Cisse combined just before the hour mark to put Newcastle up 2-0 as Demba Ba played a ball into the area that Ben Arfa helped on to the Senegal international, who cut in front of goalkeeper Pepe Reina before dispatching his shot into the net.
Liverpool's disappointing day was summed up in the final 10 minutes as Reina was sent off after he headbutted Newcastle's James Perch.

London, England - Tottenham snapped a five-game winless streak on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Swansea City at White Hart Lane behind two goals from Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Swans battled back and leveled the match shortly before the hour mark on a nice volley from Gylfi Sigurdsson, but Adebayor took over from there, heading Tottenham in front with 17 minutes to play from Van der Vaart's corner kick.
Swansea remained within a goal as the match entered the final five minutes but Adebayor put the result away with another headed goal, this time from Aaron Lennon's cross.
The result lifts Tottenham into a tie for third place with Arsenal and keeps the club five points clear of both Chelsea and Newcastle in the race for a top-four spot.
