Dundee, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Celtic took another step toward securing a fourth straight Scottish Premier League title on Wednesday as Virgil van Dijk scored a goal and set up another to help the club to a 2-1 win at Dundee FC.

The result lifts Celtic eight points clear of second-place Aberdeen with five games remaining, while Dundee will finish the season in the top six despite Wednesday's setback.

Aberdeen closed the gap to five points with a win on Saturday, but the Hoops took care of business on Wednesday to restore their advantage with goals from Gary Mackay-Steven and Van Dijk before the hosts pulled a goal back three minutes from time through Jim McAlistair.

Van Dijk set up the opener in the 32nd minute when he picked out Mackay-Steven with a pass that allowed the forward to hammer a shot into the top right corner from 10 yards.

Midway through the second half Celtic doubled the lead when Stuart Armstrong was fouled and Van Dijk stepped up and drilled a free kick into the upper left corner to put Celtic in control.

McAlistair ruined the clean sheet in the 87th minute to make it 2-1, but Celtic easily saw out the rest of the match to claim the win.
