Looking for a little pop in the lineup, the Cardinals have talked to the Milwaukee Brewers about first baseman Adam Lind, who has 16 home runs.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis is seeking a left-handed bat with some power, but one that also comes with a short-term deal. Lind fits that bill, and he could be made available by Milwaukee as Friday's non-waiver trade deadline creeps closer.

A potential obstacle in a deal for Lind is his health. He left Saturday's game because of tightness in his back, and did not play Sunday.

The Cardinals' .224 average in July ranks in the bottom six in baseball, according to the Post-Dispatch. The return of Matt Holliday's left-handed bat and any boast from slumping third baseman Matt Carpenter should help the Cards' offense. Another potential target is Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis.
