Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - If running back is making a comeback in the NFL, then Northern Iowa's David Johnson wants to be a part of it.
At least the Arizona Cardinals hope so.
The Cardinals selected Johnson in the third round of the NFL Draft Friday night with the 86th overall pick.
Johnson, at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds, has good size and speed for the backfield, and he brings a shifty running style and excellent pass catching ability to the NFL.
He set 15 school records at UNI, finishing with 4,682 rushing yards, 6,854 all- purpose yards and 64 touchdowns in his career. The All-Missouri Valley Football Conference standout is the only player in UNI history with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
At the 2015 Senior Bowl, he had a game-high 141 all-purpose yards and a rushing touchdown.
Johnson is the 17th player and only the second running back in UNI history to be selected in the NFL Draft.
