Canadiens ink Gallagher to 6-year extension

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Canadiens locked up forward Brendan Gallagher for the long term with a six-year contract extension announced on Saturday.

With the new pact, Gallagher's salary is set to jump from $650,000 to an average value of $3.75 million over the length of the deal.

The 22-year-old native of Edmonton has picked up five goals and 12 points in 24 games for the Canadiens this season, his third in the NHL.

Since cracking the Montreal lineup during the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign, Gallagher has totaled 39 goals and 81 points in 149 regular-season appearances. He also has recorded 13 points in 22 playoff contests, including career highs in goals (4), assists (7) and points (11) set in 17 games last postseason.
