California tops round-robin play in USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship

The University of California routed Temple 55-0 on Saturday in the USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship to jump from fifth to first place in the final round-robin standings.
California finished pool play 3-0, also beating Virginia Tech 45-7 on Friday, and Kutztown 10-5 on Saturday. The Golden Bears will face Arizona in the quarterfinals Sunday.
Georgia's Life University qualified second in the 20-team event at PPL Park. Penn State was second and defending champion Dartmouth fourth. Life will face Kutztown in the quarterfinals, Penn State will play Navy, and Dartmouth will oppose UCLA.

California finished third last year.
"We have a lot of guys back from that team," senior captain Seamus Kelly said. "We're one more year experienced. We have a good shot. This sevens game is pretty unpredictable so we got to go pedal to the metal the entire time."
