Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star closer Jason Grilli has been diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right arm.
The Pirates said a consultation with team doctors as well as Dr. James Andrews determined Grilli won't have surgery. Instead, he will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days. Grilli has been advised to rest for a period of time before beginning a throwing program.
It is not yet known how long the 36-year-old Grilli will be sidelined, but most pitchers with this type of injury commonly miss between 4-8 weeks of action.
