The Boston Bruins have signed forward Brad Marchand to a four-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.

Marchand is entering the final season of a two-year deal he signed last September and the new extension is worth $18 million.

The 24-year-old Nova Scotia native set career highs last season with 28 goals, 27 assists and 55 points in 76 games. He has 49 goals and 97 points in 173 NHL games, all with the Bruins.

During Boston's run to the 2011 Stanley Cup title, Marchand netted 11 goals and added eight assists for 19 points in 25 games. He scored twice in Game 7 of the Cup Finals against Vancouver.

The Bruins selected Marchand in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
