Englewood, CO – Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays will likely miss the remainder of the 2012 season after suffering a fractured fibula near his left ankle in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Head coach John Fox confirmed the injury during his Monday press conference
Mays sustained the injury while on punt coverage during the fourth quarter of the Broncos' 34-14 victory over the Saints.
The fifth-year pro had started four of Denver's first five games at middle linebacker, missing one after being suspended by the NFL for an illegal hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in Week 3, and totaled 20 tackles and a half-sack.
Fox had better news regarding quarterback Peyton Manning, who hit his throwing thumb on a New Orleans defender's helmet during Sunday's win. The four-time league MVP did not come out of the contest, however, and is expected to be fine for Sunday's matchup at Cincinnati.
