Brewers release Wolf

On his 36th birthday, the Milwaukee Brewers released left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf.
Wolf, who went 13-10 with a 3.61 ERA last year with the Brewers during their run to the NLCS, has struggled this season. He was 3-10 with a 5.69 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 24 starts for the club in 2012.
The release makes room in the rotation for the soon-to-be activated Shaun Marcum, who is scheduled to make his first start in more than two months this weekend. He hasn't pitched since June 14 due to right elbow tightness.

Marcum, 30, was 5-3 with a 3.39 ERA over 13 starts prior to being placed on the disabled list.
In addition, Milwaukee recalled infielder Jeff Bianchi from Triple-A Nashville.
