The Chicago Bears have hired Mike Phair as their defensive line coach.

He replaces Eric Washington, who took a similar position on Ron Rivera's staff with the Carolina Panthers. Phair spent the past six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, the last three on the coaching staff after working for them as an area scout.

He was a defensive assistant last year after serving as assistant defensive line coach (2009) and assistant linebacker coach (2008).

He also spent three seasons in Tampa Bay's college scouting department and has coached at Arizona State and Tiffin University. The Bears announced his hiring on Thursday.
