Bayern Munich thrashes Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Bayern Munich extended their unprecedented unbeaten streak in league play to 49 matches on Saturday after rolling to a 6-1 drubbing of Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena.

Wolfsburg entered the contest needing a rebound performance after suffering a 6-2 loss at the hands of Hoffenheim last weekend, and they got off to a nice start against the defending European champions as Naldo opened the scoring 17 minutes in.

But it was all Bayern after that as Xherdan Shaqiri found an equalizer in the 26th minute as the clubs went into the locker room level.

Bayern seized control of proceedings with a dominant second-half display. Thomas Muller gave the Bavarians the lead in the 63rd minute and Mario Mandzukic made it 3-1 three minutes later.

Franck Ribery got into the scoring act in the 71st minute before Muller completed his brace in the 78th minute and Mandzukic finished his brace 10 minutes from time to put a bow on the rout for Bayern.

The result sees the Bavarians increase their already sizable lead atop the Bundesliga table to 23 points over second-place Borussia Dortmund, while Wolfsburg remains in fifth place on 39 points.

Also in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a hat trick for Schalke in a comfortable 4-0 rout of Hoffenheim. Huntelaar struck in the sixth and 28th minutes, missed a penalty in the 31st minute and finished his treble 11 minutes from time.

Halil Altintop and Tobias Werner scored to lift Augsburg to a 2-1 victory over Monchengladbach, while Alexander Madlung and Hakan Calhanoglu swapped goals as Hamburg and Eintracht played to a 1-1 draw.

Gonzalo Castro and Artjoms Rudnevs traded tallies as Hannover and Bayer Leverkusen played out a 1-1 stalemate, while Ermin Bicakcic's goal eight minutes from time rescued a point for Braunschweig in a 2-2 draw against Stuttgart.

Finally on Saturday in Germany, Franco Di Santo and Philipp Bargfrede scored on either side of the intermission as Werder Bremen earned a 2-0 result over Nurnberg.
