ORONO, Maine – Troy Barnies scored 10 of his 14 points during a 13-4 second-half run as Maine defeated Boston University 65-52 on Sunday.
The Black Bears (7-6, 1-0 America East), after leading by as many as 17 points in the first half, were ahead just 37-36 with 11:06 remaining. After a 3-pointer by Gerald McLemore, Barnies scored Maine's next 10 points, stretching the lead to 50-40 with 5:49 left.
McLemore led the Black Bears in scoring with 16 points and Terrance Mitchell had 15, including six in a 15-3 first-half run that turned a 7-7 tie into a 22-10 Maine lead.
Darryl Partin scored 20 for Boston University (5-10, 0-1), including the first eight points of the second half, when the Terriers cut a 31-18 halftime deficit to 31-26.
Three-point shooting helped get Boston University back into the game. The Terriers made 7 of 12 behind the arc in the second half to Maine's 2 of 8.
