Bale pens extension at Tottenham
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Tottenham Hotspur announced Wednesday that star midfielder Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract with the club, committing his future to White Hart Lane until 2016.
Bale, who has emerged as one of the Premier League's most potent attacking wingers in recent years, has been the subject of transfer rumors after Tottenham failed to clinch a Champions League spot last season.
But the Welshman, who joined Spurs in 2007, looks set to remain in North London in order to help restore Tottenham's status as a top-four club.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"I've been here for five years now and I've enjoyed every minute," Bale told Tottenham's official website. "The fans have been great to me and I'd love to re-pay them and do the very best for them. The club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done.
"I love the club and the fans and I want to play my part in trying to get us back into the Champions League - where we belong. We've a good, young squad and we need to work together to get back on the biggest stage again."
Bale, 22, has been named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year the past two seasons in addition to claiming the PFA Player of the Year award in 2011.
