DAVIS, Calif. – Avery Johnson scored a career-high 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lift UC Davis to an 85-73 win over Cal Poly on Thursday night.
Georgi Funtarov contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double, while Brynton Lemar and Ryan Sypkens added 14 points apiece for UC Davis (9-19, 4-9 Big West), which snapped a four-game skid and kept its hopes for one of eight conference tournament berths alive. Corey Hawkins had 10 points and dished out seven assists in the win.
The Aggies, who tied a season high 13 3-pointers, took the lead for good early in the first half, holding a double-digit advantage most of the game.
Cal Poly (10-17, 6-8) shaved the gap to single digits on a 3-pointer from Chris Eversley that made it 80-72 but then stalled in the final minute.
Eversley led the Mustangs with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
