Cincinnati, OH – The Houston Astros have recalled right- hander Jordan Lyles from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start Sunday's series finale against the Reds in Cincinnati.
Lyles won all four of his starts with the RedHawks this season, compiling a 3.46 ERA and recording 24 strikeouts to just four walks in 26 innings. His performance in the minors is the antithesis of his numbers in spring training -- 19 earned runs allowed in 20 1/3 innings.
The 21-year-old Lyles is getting the nod in place of Kyle Weiland, who landed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with soreness in his right shoulder.
Lyles made his major league debut with Houston in 2011 and went 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA in 20 games, 15 of which were starts.
In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned infielder Brian Bixler to Oklahoma City.
