Arizona wins, Florida State stays alive in CWS
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The last time the Arizona Wildcats tossed a shutout in the College World Series, they went on to win the national championship.
The Wildcats are hoping that history repeats itself in 2012.
Konnor Wade spun a five-hit shutout and a four-run bottom of the fourth inning propelled the Arizona Wildcats to a 4-0 win over the UCLA Bruins in a battle of Pac-12 teams in the College World Series.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Wade fired 72 of his 102 pitches for strikes and fanned four in the first Arizona shutout since Craig Lefferts blanked Michigan in 1980. The Wildcats then went on to beat Hawaii, 5-3, in the title game.
It's just the sixth College World Series shutout in the past 20 years.
Seth Mejias-Brean and Bobby Brown each registered a hit and a pair of RBI for the Wildcats, who will play the winner of Tuesday's game between UCLA and Florida State on Thursday.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}UCLA starter Nick Vander Tuig didn't allow a hit through 3 1/3 innings before Arizona's four-run offensive onslaught in the fourth. In all, Tuig struck out eight and was touched for four runs on six hits and a walk.
Johnny Field's single broke up the no-no before base hits by Alex Mejia and Robert Refsnyder loaded the bases. Mejias-Brean then slapped a two-run single to right-center and Brown followed with a double down the right- field line, bringing home two more for a 4-0 Arizona lead.
Pat Valaika's single to right with two outs in the fifth broke up Wade's no- hit bid.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Earlier Sunday, Devon Travis went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI, and Justin Gonzalez cracked a three-run homer as Florida State crushed Stony Brook, 12-2 in College World Series action at TD Ameritrade Park.
James Ramsey went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Sherman Johnson added two hits, two runs scored and pair of RBI for the Seminoles.
Mike Compton allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the win. Brandon Johnson, Bryant Holtmann and Mack Waugh each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win for Florida State.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}William Carmona went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and Pat Cantwell added an RBI groundout for Stony Brook, whose season is over after suffering their second loss. They previously fell to UCLA, 9-1, on Friday.
Brandon McNitt got the start for the Seawolves and allowed nine runs -- four earned -- on six hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
Florida State got on the board with a run in its first at-bat and never looked back. Travis drew a one-out walk, moved to third on a base hit by Ramsey and scored on a fielder's choice to put the Seminoles up for good.

Johnson started the rally with a two-out single and Travis followed with a base hit of his own to put runners on the corners. Ramsey then doubled to bring home Johnson and Jayce Boyd reached on a throwing error by Stony Brook shortstop Cole Peragine which allowed two more runs to score.
Stephen McGee worked a walk to put two runners on and Gonzalez belted a home run over the wall in left to cap the scoring in the inning, making it 7-0.
Travis ripped a two-run shot in the fourth to extend the Seminoles lead to 9-0.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Stony Brook got on the board in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Cantwell and an RBI base hit by Carmona, but Florida State added three more runs in the sixth courtesy of a two-run double by Johnson and an RBI double off the bat of Travis to account for the final margin.
