Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa looks set to miss the remainder of the season because of a knee problem.
Arbeloa sat out last weekend's win over Levante with the injury, which was originally believed to be a minor problem that would require a few weeks of rest and recovery time.
However, the Spain international has said that further tests have revealed more serious damage to his right knee and that he is unlikely to feature for Madrid the rest of the season.
The 31-year-old has started 13 games in La Liga for Madrid this term, but he is hopeful of securing a place in Spain's World Cup team this summer having been a part of the team that won both the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.
In place of Arbeloa, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will turn to 22-year-old Daniel Carvajal, who has made 18 league starts for the club so far this season.
